The Web Wave Five Phrase Process:
Consultation - Design - Content - Testing - Completion
Define the purpose of your web site:
When starting a web site project, you must first clarify what the goals of the web site are. Knowing your goals will impact on the choices we make when putting the web site together and ultimately contribute to its success. This may sound obvious, but many web sites seem to be put together where the goal is not kept in mind. The result is a messy web site that is disorganized. So if for example, if the goal is to create an e-commerce web site that sells products, then as web site designers, we have to consider things like the following: Do you need credit card processing capabilities? Are you going to need a shopping cart system to take orders? How many items will be sold on the web site? This is just one example; the point to take away is that by defining the purpose, you can better prepare and get the right tools / people for the job. All of this information will be obtained during the consultation. This is where we will observe your overall goal and paint you a picture.
Choose a basic structural layout that will be used on all pages:
Now that we have an idea of the purpose of your web site, we can now choose a layout for your pages. You can go with an odd funky artsy web site (and sometimes it can work), but most of the time, you should use standard layouts that people are used to: Left side navigation. Top navigation. Right side navigation. When in doubt, think of books and how they are laid out.
Choose the basic color scheme and fonts for the site:
Your next task is to start considering the basic colors and fonts that you would like. You want to choose a style that fits the subject of the web site. For example: pink doesn't do well for a hardware store . maybe some steel blues instead! The point is to establish the style of the web site before we get started because it is your web site and you want what your paying for to look like you want it.
Write out the text for the website:
Before we start on the web site, we prefer that you should (in your favorite word processor) write out all the text that you need to include in the web site, doing so will help us with the design process. Another thing you should do is to make sure that the text is finalized before it gets to the web site; it is much easier for you to correct things in a word processor than us to correct in an HTML page.
Build out the website:
With the above completed, we arer ready to actually start creating your web page. Once we have a design completed, we will email you a copy of the design. Once the design is OKed, we will begin on the actual web site. After the web site is tested and completed, you will review the web site to make sure everything is how you wanted it. Once that is completed, billing will then take place. View Terms of Service
